Capitol Continues Talks with DPWH

Gov. Gwen Garcia has continued dialogue with the Department of Public Works and Highways, headed by regional director Ernesto Gregorio Jr., concerning certain tattered roads in the second district of the province.

During a follow-up meeting at the Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 28, Gov. Garcia emphasized Capitol’s right as a local government unit to meddle with national government projects — in this case roads constructed by DPWH along Cebu’s southern highway — that have negative effects on constituents.

The governor reminded DPWH officials that under the Local Government Code of 1991, national government agencies must ensure the participation of LGUs both in the planning and implementation of road projects.

In order to expedite the completion of road repairs, an idea was floated where asphalt be overlaid on top of not-so-dilapidated portions of roads instead of totally scraping off road cement in order to lay fresh coat.

Teams from Capitol and DPWH will conduct a joint survey in order to determine spots where an asphalt overlay is applicable and where total cementing is required. | CL / Photos: CC
